The signing ceremony took place at the MUDAM on 23 October in the presence of Jacques Santer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MUDAM Foundation and Enrico Lunghi, the museum’s Director. Cargolux, for its part, was represented by Paul Helminger, Chairman of the airline’s Board of Directors, and Richard Forson, President and Interim CEO of Cargolux.

Cargolux regularly transports works of art for the museum around the world. In 2013 alone, the airline operated ten flights that carried artwork for MUDAM.

Since its early days, Cargolux has sought to support and promote Luxembourg’s cultural activities. As an international airline operating worldwide, the company strives to enrich the cultural life of its home country and to support Luxembourg artists in their international exposure. This support is strongly anchored in Cargolux’s ambitions and the role it wants to play as a good citizen.

The start of the MUDAM partnership dates back to 2004 and essentially consists in providing support by doing what Cargolux know best: flying cargo, in particular bulky and outsize consignments. Long distance transportation of valuable pieces of art is essential to enable exhibitions in the Grand Duchy originating from all over the world, as well as the other way round. Safe and efficient cargo transportation potentially adds up to a large part of the budget of exhibition projects, in particular if pieces of art need to be transported between continents. Most of the artworks that Cargolux flies for MUDAM are carried between Europe, the United States and Asia. Cargolux’s support therefore contributes to eventually tip the balance towards successful completion of such projects and constitutes an essential logistical link between MUDAM and other museums around the world, as it can be seen in the current show by Lee Bul, an internationally awarded South Korean artist.

Cargolux is proud to able to play its part in the success of the museum, the diversity of its high profile exhibitions and the advancement of the culture of modern art in Luxembourg.
