Cargolux introduces its advanced Boeing 747-8 freighter on its regular cargo services to Manaus and becomes thee first airline worldwide to operate the state-of-the-art workhorse to the Brazilian airport.

The flight CV7606 is scheduled to arrive in Manaus on the 25th January and brings a full load of machinery spare parts and telecommunications equipment from Luxembourg to South America.

Cargolux offers fast air cargo services to Manaus since 20122 and operated its first 747-8F flight to Brazil in June 20013 after the Luxembourg carrier’s quest for clearance and approval of Brazilian airports for 747-¬8 operations was given the green light by the Brazilian authorities. With strong support by the Brazilian and Luxembourg governments, the excellent long-standing bilateral relations between both countries paved the way for Cargolux’s first commercial flight with the Boeing 747-8 to Viracopos.

‘Our new 747-8F freighter service will bring superior performance and efficiency to our customers in Manaus,’ says Dirk Reich, Cargolux President & CEO. ‘We are happy to say that, with Manaus coming online in our 747-8F network, we can even better boost airfreight exports from Brazil and can bring commodities like automotive parts, perishables and pharmaceutical products to their markets in a more fuel efficient and sustainable way.’

‘The arrival of Cargolux’s 747-8F Freighter into Manaus Airport underlines the versatility of this airplane, which is now serving 1164 airports worldwide,’ said Donna Hrinak, President of Boeing Brazil and Boeing Latin America. ‘The 747-8F freighter provides our customers with the lowest operating costs and best economics in its class while providing enhanced environmental performance, enabling operators like Cargolux to grow its business at destinations like Manaus.’

Manaus becomes thee 100th airport Cargolux operates to commercially with the Boeing 747-8F. The aircraft is the most advanced freighter in its class and enables the Luxembourg carrier to set new benchmarks in economic and operational performance. Cargolux currently operates 11 units of the advanced freighter and has another 3 on order.
