Cargolux supports pink October
Cargolux Airlines is proud to support the Fly Pink initiative to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The annual campaign encourages flight crews to swap their traditional golden stripes for pink ones to show support for the worthy cause.
Cargolux’s company-wide venture runs from 21 to 28 October. During this time, the company will provide the crewmembers on duty with pink epaulettes so they can spread the word far and wide.
Cargolux believes it is vital for global companies, and airlines in particular, to stand behind such causes and encourage active participation from employees. As Claude Zehren, Executive Vice-President Flight Operations explains: “Our pilots act as global company ambassadors and with such initiatives, they can provide visibility about cancer awareness throughout the world. The initiative is done on a voluntary basis and we are proud to see that many of our pilots have expressed interest in participating.”
Throughout the month of October, numerous initiatives are organized in support of cancer research, and over the years, the cause has become synonymous with the color pink. Building on this international color awareness, in 2013, a Qantaslink pilot decided to swap her traditional stripes for pink ones to support the cause and the Fly Pink initiative was born.
The pink stripes are now widely recognized and can be purchased by any airline or individual crewmember that wish to take part; all proceeds are donated for the cause. Last year, the cause teamed up with the well-known Movember campaign and the funds raised now go towards a joint research for the treatment of breast, prostate, and ovarian cancer.
