ERG’s Kazchrome receives a Platinum award, the highest level of sustainability recognition, from EcoVadis
Eurasian Resources Group (“ERG” or “The Group”), a leading diversified natural resources group headquartered in Luxembourg, has been awarded a Platinum medal by Ecovadis, the independent sustainability ratings provider, in recognition of its subsidiary Kazchrome’s ESG achievements. TNC Kazchrome JSC, which is based in Kazakhstan and is the world’s largest ferrochrome producer by chrome content, has received the high sustainability score of 75 out of 100 (2021: 60) from EcoVadis. The Platinum medal is the highest possible level of recognition and places Kazchrome within the top 1 percent of companies in the global iron and steel industry in terms of ESG ratings.
EcoVadis’ methodology is based on fundamental analysis of a company against 21 CSR criteria divided into four themes: environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Built on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Compact and the ISO 26000, EcoVadis is one of the most comprehensive providers of business sustainability ratings in the world.
Benedikt Sobotka, CEO of ERG, said: “Having received a Silver rating last year, the Group had set the ambitious target of a Gold medal in 2022. This extraordinary achievement of a Platinum rating has exceeded all expectations and demonstrates the remarkable commitment of both our teams in Kazakhstan, particularly at Kazchrome, and the wider Group to going above and beyond, ensuring that ERG has a positive impact on the planet and reinforcing our position as a global sustainability champion. I would particularly like to thank Arman Yessenzhulov, President of TNC Kazchrome JSC, Anastasia Kuskova, Director of Transformation and Sustainability at ERG as well as the whole ESG team. I would also like to extend my gratitude to EcoVadis for their important work in guiding the industry towards a more sustainable future.”
Serik Shakhazhanov, Chairman of the Management Board at Eurasian Group LLP, which manages ERG’s assets in Kazakhstan, said: “At Kazchrome, we strive to be the best in what we do, and this medal shows that our philosophy is providing practical results and external recognition. My colleagues at Kazchrome should be immensely proud of what we have achieved with this rating and of Kazchrome’s contribution to the sustainable development of the region and the world at large. We look forward to building on this success in the years to come.”
