Improvements to all existing car parks
In 2013 traffic at lux-Airport reached an all-time high with 2.2 million passengers. This resulted in a record demand for parking and a severe shortage in parking capacity. In 2014 the positive trend in airport traffic is expected to continue to increase, to an estimated 2,5 million passengers. In response, lux-Airport is making changes to its car parkings and plans to open a new additional car park before the summer season 2014 commences, increasing the total number of airport parking spaces to more than 7,400. While the different car parks were not very differentiated previously, four distinct parking options will soon be introduced to better respond to passengers’ needs. Rates will be simplified and adjusted to each car park. The new parking lots will be color coded and bear functional names to distinguish them. The parking directions and road signage leading passengers to lux-Airport will also include these new features.

New Economy Parking
The new “Economy” parking lot, featuring 1,300 spaces, will open on June 16th, 2014. “Economy” will offer a long-term parking solution for price sensitive travelers, being competitive with low cost car parks at other airports in the region. At a weekly rate of € 35, the cost will be significantly lower compared to the standard parking price today. “Economy”, which will be color-coded yellow, is located at Rue de Neudorf, 2.5 km from the terminal. To ensure convenient access, a free airport shuttle will commute daily between the terminal and “Economy” parking. The shuttle will operate every 20 minutes, from 4:00am until midnight, 7 days a week.

Open Air Parkings
“Open Air” will offer a long-term standard parking option with a total capacity of 2,000 parking spaces, located on the surface car parks E, F and G, within less than 10 minutes walking distance from the terminal. The car parks have been reworked earlier this year with new signage and new markings and will be color-coded green. The cost remains unchanged; the rate structure for “Open Air” parking will be simplified.

Underground Indoor Parking
The airport will offer more than 4,000 long-term premium parking spaces in the underground garage “Indoor” via entrances marked “Parking A” and “Parking B”. Featuring superior infrastructure and direct access to the terminal, this solution is designed for passengers with high requirements for a convenient, short and covered walking distance to the terminal. “Indoor” will be marked blue in the external parking directions. The garage’s parking system indicates available parking spaces at garage entry and guides passengers reliably to them. Recently the airport has invested to expand this system to other parts in the garage which were not covered by the system before. Furthermore, the parking area for rental cars has been modified on level -2 and is now clearly separated from the passenger parking. Disabled passengers still find reserved parking spaces in the front rows of level -1, and will receive a discounted parking rate upon presentation of the certificate of disability.

Short Term Parking
“Short Term” parking, also known as “Kiss & Fly” parking, is located directly in front of the terminal with a capacity of 100 parking spaces. These spaces are specifically targeted for passenger drop off and pick up, and therefore the first 15 minutes will remain free of charge. Pricing for parking longer than 15 minutes will be reduced considerably compared to past rates, however long term parking will be strongly discouraged by applying rates which are still substantially higher than in the underground garage. In case “Short Term” parking is fully occupied, “Open Air” parking in lot G offers a nearby alternative with also 15 minutes of free parking for passenger drop off.

lux-Airport is committed to continue to improve the parking experience for its passengers. In addition to enhancing the external parking directions and improving terminal access from parking lot E, the airport is planning to introduce a new service for business travelers as well as an online pre-booking platform for car parking. In the long run, additional parking facilities will be developed on airport.
