ING News: Thanks to the ING Pop-Up Store open during the ING Night Marathon in May, 2,000 EUR were raised in favour of “Médecins Sans Frontières” (Doctors without borders)!
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the ING Night Marathon, ING had installed an « ING Pop-Up Store » in Luxexpo, proposing to the public a series of articles produced by ING (watches, T-shirts, key holders, sports bags, headphones…)
Thanks to this very successful initiative, ING had the pleasure to donate the total turnover of 2,000 EUR to Médecins sans Frontières (MSF).
The funds will be used for MSF vaccination projects. These allow MSF teams to protect vulnerable populations, particularly infants and children aged less than 5 years, from fatal diseases that a simple vaccine could avoid.
Vaccination: an essential medical act!
Infectious diseases such as diphtheria, meningitis, tuberculosis or measles are the first cause of mortality in countries in low- or middle-income countries. Vaccination is an essential activity for Médecins Sans Frontières as it remains the best answer to protect populations from these infectious diseases.
In countries where vaccination coverage is low, MSF strives to administer routine vaccination to all children aged less than 5 years old in all its primary health care programs. Thanks to this, 2 to 3 million deaths are avoided every year.
However, 25% of the children in the world are not protected from fatal disease. As a consequence, nearly 2 million people die every year from diseases that vaccines recommended for children by the WHO (World Health Organisation) could prevent.
The figures
- MSF vaccinates more than 10 million children every year in the world.
- In 2013, MSF vaccinated 2,497,250 people against measles in reaction to an epidemic.
- In 2013, 162,400 people were vaccinated against meningitis in reaction to an epidemic.
ING is consequently proud of its contribution to improving health conditions of children living in developing countries and this thanks to its action during the ING Night Marathon and thanks to all the people that bought something in the Pop-up store!
