Delphi Automotive PLC (NYSE: DLPH) received the 2013 Automobil Produktion Most Innovative Technology Award in the ‘Safe’ category for its RACam technology, the world’s first integrated radar and camera system. The award was presented by the German trade magazine Automobil Produktion in cooperation with European supplier association CLEPA and German automotive industry association VDA.
Delphi’s RACam, which is expected to start production next year, is a very compact, high-performance radar and camera integrated system that enables adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, low-speed collision mitigation, autonomous braking that recognizes both pedestrians and vehicles, and other advanced features to help OEMs achieve maximum EuroNCAP ratings.
“Studies have shown that 90 percent of accidents are caused by driver error; a problem that can be significantly reduced by technology,” said Beth Schwarting, vice president Delphi Electronic Controls. “The jury of automotive experts chose Delphi’s RACam as the best Safe Innovation for its potential to help Europe achieve its goal of halving road deaths by 2020.”
Delphi’s ability to create breakthrough technologies for tomorrow is firmly rooted in its long heritage of achievement. In 1959, Delphi introduced the first automotive cruise control system. Today, Delphi is one of the world's most innovative companies. The company continues its strong commitment to research and development with 18,000 scientists and engineers around the world who innovate each day to help OEMs offer vehicles that are safer, greener and more connected.
