This appointment continues the close association of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in the activities of FESE. Since his appointment as CEO of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in April 2012, Robert Scharfe has contributed, like his predecessors, to the strategic reflections of European exchanges in order to ensure their future competitiveness internationally. The Luxembourg Stock Exchange is a founder member of the federation and its representatives have held the positions of FESE president (from 1993 to 1995) and chair of its management committee (from 1991 to 1993). FESE appointments are for a term of three years.

The Federation of European Securities Exchanges represents forty-one exchanges in equities, bonds, derivatives and commodities through twenty-one full members from thirty countries, as well as two observer members. It aims to foster the competitiveness of European exchanges, to promote public recognition of exchanges and their contribution to the economy and to provide a forum for open and forward-looking debate on capital markets.
