BNP Paribas staff in Luxembourg race for a good cause
€7,095 donated to Toutes à l’École
I want to thank the Group's Luxembourg-based employees who took part in this collective effort and made it possible to give a donation to Toutes à l’École. This is one of the many initiatives taken by the bank as part of its corporate social responsibility policy. These schemes are supported by our employees, who are volunteering in increasing numbers for projects that serve the general interest and promote solidarity
Carlo Thill, Chairman of the BGL BNP Paribas Management Board
A EUR 7,095 cheque was donated to the non-profit organisation Toutes à l’École at a reception on Thursday 17 July 2014. The presentation was made to Anne Contreras and Valérie Arnold, respectively chair and vice-chair of the organisation, by Carlo Thill, Country Head for BNP Paribas and Chairman of the Management Board of BGL BNP Paribas, and Patrick Conrardy, board member of the running section of the bank's Cercle Amical and Sportif.
The presentation was made after more than 180 employees of BNP Paribas in Luxembourg took part in the Luxembourg Marathon on 31 May. To support staff efforts, the management of BNP Paribas in Luxembourg had promised to make a donation proportional to the number of runners crossing the finish line. The group's employees in Luxembourg once again rallied round to help a charitable organisation for the ninth year in a row.
The money raised this year will go to Toutes à l’École Luxembourg, a non-profit organisation founded in 2010 to provide education to underprivileged girls. The organisation has been particularly involved in the Happy Chandara project in Cambodia. Based 12 kilometres from Phnom Penh, this pilot school has 850 pupils, and every year some one hundred young girls start their schooling there. A vocational training centre was also opened in 2013. The girls are educated and trained either to university entrance level or until they get their first job, depending on which path they choose.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Valérie Arnold said she was delighted that Toutes à l’École had benefited from the solidarity shown by the employees of BNP Paribas in Luxembourg: "We are very grateful to the staff of BNP Paribas for supporting our organisation and, in doing so, helping disadvantaged girls go to school".
Carlo Thill took advantage of the ceremony to thank all the Group's employees who ran in the 2014 marathon. He said, "I want to thank the Group's Luxembourg-based employees who took part in this collective effort and made it possible to give a donation to Toutes à l’École. This is one of the many initiatives taken by the bank as part of its corporate social responsibility policy. These schemes are supported by our employees, who are volunteering in increasing numbers for projects that serve the general interest and promote solidarity."
