New high-tech storage in Luxembourg
Currently Streff has 3 storage facilities and it is opening a new high-tech storage centre which will be its flagship for highly specialized secure yet affordable storage services in Luxembourg. It will also complement other specialist storage facilities, such as the new Freeport at Findel.
In the new high-tech storage centre it will be possible to stack up six shipping containers with no human entry to the storage area. Advanced robotic systems will give secure access to the owners. Anything from document archives, valuable goods, collectables and household goods will be stored at the Streff new storage under special conditions to ensure their security and perfect preservation. Several independent loading bays will be available for customers to access their individual container, upon request, in a secure and private environment. Also office and handling space will be available for Streff’s staff so that they can make the goods ready for storage, involving, in particular, labelling and encoding, as well as scanning and packing of documents and archives.
With this new building, total storage volume available to the company will increase by about 70 000 cubic metres reaching roughly 250 000 cubic metres. With an automated gantry crane to stack containers up to six units high, the warehouse will have a capacity equivalent to nearly 700 lockable standard 20-foot steel containers. Each 20-foot container has a net volume of 33 cubic metres (46 cubic metres for the 25-foot containers) and all containers have a net carrying capacity of up to 15 000 kg. Streff overall capacity will increase to 1.500 20-foot steel containers; it will also be possible to store 40 and 45-foot containers.
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Finance Ministry are hoping to make Luxembourg a bigger European logistics hub and Streff is fully participating in this initiative. Luxembourg continues to offer more diversified business services. The opening of this new high-tech storage centre will add value to the existing ranking of Luxembourg in the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index. Currently, Luxembourg holds the 8th place after an impressive jump from the 15th place held in 2012; this ranking takes various aspects into consideration, such as tracking & tracing, competence and timeliness, etc. More than 160 countries form part of this ranking. The construction of this new storage area has already started and it is expected to be finished early 2015. This is good news for the people who are looking for this specialized type of storage as it is quite rare and in high demand – demand which is fuelled by the ongoing increase in the prices of real estate. In Luxembourg, Streff is the only company that offers such a specialized individual container secure storage system variety and there is no knowledge of a similar container storage capacity anywhere in Europe if not world wide.
