At the initiative of the Luxembourg Government and of the City of Luxembourg, who are keen to promote the "smart nation" and "smart city" images of the country and its capital, and following up on the new “Digital Lëtzebuerg” Strategy, the installation of wireless Internet access points was decided for various parts of the City on the occasion of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union which Luxembourg will assume at the beginning of July 2015.

During the Presidency and until 31 January 2016, public WiFi networks in the cities of Luxembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette, including the Belval neighborhood, will be made available free of charge. For access, simply select the wireless network CITYLUXFREE on your smartphone, tablet or laptop and confirm your connection by clicking on the "connect" button.

Luxair Luxembourg Airlines has decided to join this initiative in order to contribute to meeting the users’ever growing need for mobility. The portal will be available in French, German and English. An estimated 6,000 people are expected to connect to the network every day.
