Dunlop, one of the leading manufacturers of high performance motorcycle tyres, has completed the testing and development program for its latest Sport Touring tyre – the RoadSmart III.

Designed, developed and manufactured at the same Dunlop European Innovation Centre as the 2015 race winning Isle of Man TT tyres, the new RoadSmart III has been signed off for production after the most intensive and rigorous test programme in Dunlop Europe’s history.

The RoadSmart III has been designed with the needs of European riders and roads as its foremost objective. To achieve a high performance tyre specification, Dunlop Europe’s engineers have completed a 31 month test and development programme comprising an incredible 1.2 million kilometres of evaluation.

Andy Marfleet, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Europe Moto, explained the scale of the test programme: “To achieve our goal, which was to have an outstanding tyre in its category for European road riders, we evaluated over 200 different tyre compound and construction options. Over a 31 month period, our intensive test programme focused on new materials, tread concepts and advanced compound development to get to the final tyre specification.”
The distinctive tread pattern is the first Dunlop Europe Moto pattern to have been designed by Dunlop Europe’s Advanced Design Studio and features a wear resistant compound and unique iGT (Interconnecting Groove Tread) technology – a first for the brand.

“RoadSmart III, looks different and is different. The iGT technology is designed to give enhanced wet performance, a very important feature for Europe’s road riders, especially those in the North of the Continent. The innovative tread design also provides improved durability and even wear throughout the life of the tyre. These technologies achieve our goal of providing tyre performance that is stronger for longer. This has now been signed off for production and we will reveal more technical information in early 2016. ” added Andy.

Dunlop Europe’s RoadSmart III will be on sale in January 2016 and the range will include 18 sizes and specifications, covering large capacity GT bikes to the latest generation mid-size twins.
