Presentation of a EUR 5,000 donation to Doctors without Borders
The employees of the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg run for a good cause
At a reception organised on 14 September 2016, Carlo Thill, Country Head of the BNP Paribas Group and Chairman of the Management Board of BGL BNP Paribas, and Marc Lenert, member of the Management Board of BGL BNP Paribas and Chairman of the Bank’s “Cercle Amical et Sportif” sports and recreation association, presented a cheque for EUR 5,000 to Dr Guy Berchem, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and to Janet Steinmetzer, Major Gifts and Partnerships Manager, of Médecins Sans Frontières Luxembourg.
The cheque was presented following the participation of more than 100 employees of the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg in the Luxembourg Marathon on 28 May. To support them in their efforts, the management of the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg committed to making a donation proportional to the number of runners crossing the finish line. It is the eleventh consecutive year in which the participation of the Group's employees in Luxembourg has enabled a contribution to a charitable organisation.
This year, the funds raised will go to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Luxembourg, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2016. MSF's Luxembourg section coordinates operational research for the missions and supports operations on the ground by finding human and financial resources.
At the cheque presentation ceremony, Dr Berchem expressed his gratitude for the Group's support of MSF Luxembourg. On the occasion of MSF Luxembourg's 30th anniversary, the organisation has decided to allocate all the funds collected this year to all of its medical and humanitarian actions in more than 70 countries around the world.
Marc Lenert took the opportunity of the ceremony to thank the Group's employees in Luxembourg who participated in the 2016 Marathon: "I warmly thank the runners from the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg for their dedicated participation in this race. Their efforts have made possible the donation that we are presenting this evening to Médecins Sans Frontières.
As a company, we are very aware of our social responsibility, and an event like the Marathon is a wonderful opportunity to combine sport and social commitment."
