Goodyear to launch STEM Student challenge
In order to promote technical skills such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among the Luxembourg high school students, Goodyear Luxembourg now launches the Goodyear STEM Student Challenge.
Tire technology is going through big changes with special tires for electric vehicles, tires with sensors that measure road and performance data and new apps for connected vehicles and fleet operators.
This requires talented and skilled researchers who can develop new materials, electronics and connectivity applications, but such skills are in short supply.
The initiative is based on the success of the Luxembourg Science Festival held last November and on several years of successful STEM challenges organized by Goodyear in America.
“For Goodyear to stay at the forefront of technology and innovation, it is important to create interest among students and the STEM Student Challenge is a great initiative to trigger this process” says Carlos Cipollitti, General Director of Goodyear’s Innovation Center in Colmar Berg.
The STEM Student Challenge objective asks school classes in Luxembourg to create a creative installation that transports a set of miniature tires over a certain distance with help of an inflatable Goodyear Zeppelin. A jury will judge each entry on creativity, technology and complexity and the winner will be announced during a Goodyear STEM Challenge Demo Day in July 2019.
All Luxembourg high school classes have been sent a STEM information package and can sign up in November via
