StreetScooter and Green Logistics at DHL Express Luxembourg
DHL Express Luxembourg and Cube 4T8 a company of the Losch Group presented the StreetScooter, a zero emissions delivery vehicle, this Monday afternoon to the Mayor of Contern Marion Zovilé, Mr Max Nilles, Advisor – in charge of Inland Navigation and Logistics at the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, and Mr Malik Zeniti, Director Cluster for Logistics.
The StreetScooter, an innovative and 100% electric utility vehicle, is now roaming the streets of Luxembourg as part of a test carried out by DHL Express Luxembourg. It is used for the delivery and collection of envelopes and packages in the city centre. Especially urban spaces profit from the low noise pollution and cleaner air. The vehicle is popular with all those who use it on a daily basis thanks to a more relaxed driving style.
At DHL Express Luxembourg, this is not the first attempt at zero emission delivery. The Express delivery company has been using a bicycle in the city centre since 2014 and will start new tests on 1st October with the Silence electric scooter.
François Remogna, Managing Director of DHL Express, confirms that the various tests underway will enable DHL Express to position itself towards zero-emission vehicles when renewing its fleet of vehicles. Mrs Zovilé-Braquet, Mayor of Contern, supports innovative and non-polluting transport and delivery solutions and is delighted with this new step towards a greener future for her municipality. Malik Zeniti points out that one of the future challenges of
logistics is to reduce the carbon footprint and that the tests carried out by DHL Express are promising and show a new way towards greener delivery methods, also in the framework of the Lean and Green program in Luxembourg, which encourages the reduction of CO2 in transport.
Reducing emissions in the delivery process is part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group's (DPDHL) GoGreen environmental protection program. Its mission is to reduce all logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. To achieve this objective, DPDHL has set four milestones for 2025:
- 50% increase in carbon efficiency compared to 2007 levels.
- 70% of the collections (first mile) and deliveries (last mile) made directly by the company will be carried out with zero emission solutions.
- DPDHL is committed to certifying at least 80% of its employees as GoGreen specialists.
- 1,000,000 trees will be planted each year in collaboration with the partners of the DPDHL group.
By setting new logistics standards, DPDHL is taking an important step towards carbon neutral shipments and sustainable logistics. In addition, the company invests in green technologies.
This includes StreetScooter vehicles. Since 2014, StreetScooter GmbH has been a subsidiary of the DPDHL Group. The first vehicles were created for Deutsche Post. Today, 9,000 StreetScooter are used by Deutsche Post in Germany.
