The architectural renaissance of an iconic city building

Built in 1938 for one of the country’s historical press groups, the building, with its iconic stone façade decorated with bas-reliefs and its travertine and terrazzo entrance, will be carefully renovated in order to preserve the original memory of the neighbourhood. A number of interior architectural elements will also be carefully restored, showcasing the spirit and history of the building.

A green, open and dynamic complex, conducive to meetings and interaction

At the rear of the historic building, the former presses and warehouses will be replaced by three new contemporary residences along with a verdant garden.

Landscaped zones, pathways and relaxation areas (paved paths, hedges and grass-covered spaces) will be created to lend the site an airy feel and provide bright and open spaces that are conducive to social interaction.

A new lease of life for Rue du Canal

The ground floor will be revitalised with the creation of services accessible from Rue du Canal. The planned renovation will complement the existing offering with the aim of bringing a new lease of life to the quarter and helping to create a high-quality neighbourhood. The programme will offer 73 housing units spread over 4 buildings as well as 300 m² of local services.

A presentation on the project, by Immobel and the architectural firm A/2618, was held on 14 January for local residents at the former Editpress head office, in the presence of Esch-sur-Alzette city council. The demolition works will start in February 2021. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2022. The apartments and service areas are due to go on sale in March 2021.

An information page for local residents has been created to enable them to follow the progress of the
project: www.rueducanal.lu.
