Antiques & Art Fair: a ‘new style’ 47th edition with expanded programme
An absolutely unmissable event for all art lovers and collectors, the Antiques & Art Fair is back! This 47th edition will take place over four days, from 10 to 13 June 2022, at Luxexpo The Box in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The exhibition centre will welcome around sixty-five renowned antique dealers, gallery owners and master craftsmen in a 3,500 m² display area.
Exhibitors from half a dozen countries will offer a vast range of art and antiques, including all the main styles and periods – and with independent experts available to offer guidance and advice, visitors will be able to purchase with complete confidence. These experts specialize in particular in modern art, contemporary art, furniture, paintings, ancient sculpture, jewellery and luxury watches – and what’s more they will have already examined most of the items exhibited before the Fair opens.
This 47th edition will once again present a great number of outstanding works.
For the first time the Fair will welcome comic strip art and will do so in particular by exhibiting its rarest and most sought after art: Hergé’s graphic works.
During his long career as an international banker both in Luxembourg and abroad, Bernard Soetens assembled a collection of unique works, which would turn the greatest collectors of the “Ninth Art” green with envy.
Although our favourite hero will never feature in a 25th book entitled “Tintin in Luxembourg”, that Tintin will be at the Fair is an event not to be missed. Among the dozens of rare works to be exhibited, we have picked out “Homage to Magritte”, an original drawing by Hergé (Casterman 1968).
This year the Fair will be enhanced by the addition of a few new international exhibitors. Among them, we should mention Emile Fonfoneata from Ghent, who specialises in antique silverware, antique dealers Dr. Birbaumer & Eberhardt will exhibit top-quality works of art, the Antwerp jeweller Baskania, Pipat from Bordeaux with its antiques from the French golden age, the Swiss Gallery Blue Art specialising in ancient Oriental art, and Studio Babou which offers a powerful encounter with Street Art.
“The quality of items exhibited reflects the high prestige of the Fair’s antiques dealers and art galleries. Antiques & Art Fair Luxembourg is consolidating its international position and reputation. Moreover, by attracting international customers who combine the Fair with local tourism and culture, it really puts Luxembourg on the map,” explains Mr Morgan Gromy, Luxexpo The Box CEO.
This year, the Luxexpo The Box team organising the Fair has expanded the programme to include free conferences. The first will take place on Friday 10 June from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm and will be given by Mrs Stéphanie Breydel de Groeninghe, art historian and art collection and management consultant who will offer advice on how to start a collection. On 12 June from 3 pm to 4 pm, a leading figure in watchmaking, Mr Robert Goeres, will take us behind the scenes of the Swiss watch industry as he shares his passion.
The Luxexpo The Box CEO concludes by highlighting how the Fair fits perfectly with his company’s strategy which has set ambitious and concrete criteria for its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets: “Lovers of art and antiques and we at Luxexpo The Box too have been won over by the eco-responsible nature of art and antiques since these works have been passed from one person to another over the centuries and even over millennia – the very opposite of our 'disposable' culture and of short-lived fashion trends.”
Visitors are invited to come and explore this new edition which promises to be truly special. Visitors can also enjoy the fine dining restaurant where a scrumptious brunch will be served on the Sunday. All information is available on the website.
