The Europrivacy certification scheme, managed by the European Centre for Certification and Privacy (ECCP) in Luxembourg and overseen by an International Board of Experts, facilitates the certification of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance and adherence to other data protection regulations. Aligning with ISO/IEC 17065 and Article 42 of the GDPR, this scheme allows organisations to demonstrate compliance through certificates that are valid for three years and renewable.

The Europrivacy certification, which is approved by the local data protection authority, CNPD in Luxembourg, and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), includes a comprehensive set of criteria to evaluate and document the compliance of personal data processing with GDPR obligations. These criteria cover aspects such as lawfulness, data subjects' rights, data protection by design, and the management of data breaches, along with additional checks for technology and domain-specific obligations and security assessments.

Cédric Nédélec, Data Protection Officer, CIPM & Certified Europrivacy implementer, PwC Luxembourg said, “PwC Luxembourg sees the GDPR not simply as a compliance constraint, but as a tremendous opportunity to enhance the consistency, effectiveness, efficiency, and security of its processes. PwC Luxembourg believes that data protection should be ingrained in its operational ethos, reflecting a comprehensive approach involving all stakeholders company-wide".

Olivier Carré, Technology & Transformation Leader, PwC Luxembourg said, “Our technology strategy focuses on the efficient use of data as well as the continuous enhancement of our service catalogue involving data management for our clients. The first class Europrivacy certification allows us to sustain the trust and data management quality our clients require to transform their value chains.”

PwC Luxembourg received this prestigious certification from TAM CERT Hungary Inspection and Certification Ltd, on 14 June 2024 at the Privacy Symposium which took place in Venice which was also attended by CNPD commissioner Alain Herrmann. The Europrivacy certification is a GDPR-oriented certification This approval ensures the certification's validity across all EU Member States, standardising compliance across various jurisdictions and processing activities.

Dr Sébastien Ziegler, President of the Europrivacy International Board of Experts stated, "We are delighted to see PwC Luxembourg front-running and obtaining the official GDPR European Data Protection Seal for its data processing. It demonstrates the relevance of Europrivacy, officially recognised by 30 countries, to reduce risks, to build trust, and to value compliance."

Cécile Liégeois, Clients & Markets Leader of PwC Luxembourg, stated, "Achieving Europrivacy certification enhances trust and demonstrates PwC Luxembourg's dedication to data protection, confirming its ambition and market position in light of the ever-evolving data protection laws. I am therefore delighted PwC Luxembourg has received this first certification of its kind in Europe”.
