ING News: « Mobile shopping » is less popular in Luxembourg than in most of the European countries!
According to the last ING International Survey study on mobile, less than half of Luxembourg residents (49%) claim they purchased in the past 12 months, using a mobile device, such as smartphone or tablet, compared to 58% for the European average.
Turkey (84%), Poland (64%) and Romania (62%) have the biggest number of « mobile shoppers » while Belgium (37%), the Netherlands (42%) and France (42%) have the lowest number.
Moreover, we see that clothes and electronics are the types of products which are the most frequently purchased via mobile. Between the different European countries, there are differences however: electronics is at the top in Turkey (47%) in Italy (40%), Romania (40%), Spain (33%), Czech Republic (26%) or Luxembourg (25%).
Between genders, we see there are differences everywhere in Europe: men purchase more electronic gadgets, while women more generally buy clothes.
The study also reveals that mobile shopping goes hand in hand with mobile banking: nearly four out of five (79%) mobile banking users in Europe did an online purchase via mobile, compared to 34% for those who do not use mobile banking. The Grand-Duchy shows percentages very close to the European average, with respectively 75% and 31%.
Among the categories that are the most likely to buy online, we see that men are more numerous than women (61% against 54% ; figures at European level).
Finally, if we focus on use per age category, we see that young adults (25-34 years) are twice as more in number (74%) that the 55+ category (37%) to do « mobile shopping ».
